Visitor Visas and NZeTA
Before coming to New Zealand on holiday, it is necessary to obtain either an NZeTA or visitor visa unless you are an Australian national.
The NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) is an official document that certifies your eligibility to travel to New Zealand, helping increase security at its borders and maintaining control.
You must apply for an NZeTA if travelling on a passport from one of the countries or territories covered by visa waiver programmes. To do so, check your passport is eligible by visiting visa waiver countries/territories list here
Even if your passport comes from a visa-waiver country, certain conditions still apply when travelling abroad.
You are required to obtain a visitor visa if any of the following statements apply to you:
Do not come from one of the countries or territories which allows visa waiver,
Want to visit for longer than 3 months (or 6 months if travelling from UK), And have any criminal convictions (whether past or current).
Have health conditions that could endanger public health or be costly for New Zealand’s health services, for which an NZeTA and visitor visa would both be necessary.
If you have an arrest history or health problems, regardless of where they come from, applying may be required for.
Have been sentenced to prison, deported from any country or affiliated with criminal or terrorist groups; have had serious health problems; or been involved with criminal or terrorist networks. WARNING! As part of a temporary visa application. CAN NOT have served time in prison.

Before coming to New Zealand
Even if you do not require a visitor visa prior to coming, border officials will still require information regarding why and for what purpose you are coming.
As part of your entry to New Zealand, it is necessary for you to present proof that identifies who you are. This may require providing documents such as passport or birth certificates as evidence of your identity and providing evidence that confirms this fact.
Have a valid ticket out of New Zealand, and enough funds for living expenses while you’re here.

How to Request an NZeTA

Find Out Whether or Not You Require an NZeTA
When visiting New Zealand, either an NZeTA or visitor visa is required unless you are an Australian national.
Order and Pay for an NZeTA You can easily request and purchase an NZeTA using this form:
NZeTA website (external link). NZeTA mobile app – search “NZETA” in either the App Store or Google Play. Costs An NZeTA is valid for 2 years; please visit Immigration NZ for costs and processing times.
If your dates change frequently, the NZeTA can be used on multiple visits for up to 2 years.
Should your travel dates change by more than two years, a new NZeTA will need to be purchased and paid for.
At the border, it is not necessary to present your NZeTA.
How to Pay the International Visitor Levy All visitors coming to New Zealand are subject to paying an International Visitor Levy of NZD$ 35 at the same time they obtain an NZeTA or visitor visa.
