ECONET SET TO LAUNCH 5G NETWORK IN KENYA

This network upgrade will help Econet Wireless to deliver 5G connectivity in most locations, thus unlocking advanced consumer and enterprise use cases.
The development, clarified during the Mobile World Congress (MWC), will culminate in the modernization of the former’s Radio Access Network (RAN) and mobile core network across Nairobi, the capital, and parts of the country.
The scope of the agreement with Econet also includes other networks’ cloud infrastructure solutions, the Circuit Switch Core modernization, and the introduction of an IP Multimedia System (IMS) for Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi).
High-speed internet will be enabled through 4G and 5G radio access networks, coupled with the modernized packet core network.
Along with enhancing user experience, Econet will also benefit from increased network coverage and capacity.

Bungoma, Kiambu, Mombasa, Kuria, and Kisumu are among the major regions that have been given priority in this new upgrade.
Beneficiaries will also receive a boost from the normal 12.5M to 17.2M for the agreed lease period not exceeding 20 years with additional benefits which include free power supply, free water supply, and free infrastructure development among others.
This payment is set to be made to the beneficiary’s accounts between 2nd June to 15th June after new contracts have been made between them and the company.
The network modernization will include Econet’s existing 2G, 3G, and LTE networks, with Ericsson’s latest 5G multi-band and multi-sector radio.
